DTF Radio Celebrates Black History Month




February is Black History Month, where we celebrate the advances and the successes that the African American community achieved over history. At DTF Radio we are honored to be a staple of the independent hip-hop community as well as the other many genres our station has played over the last ten years.  Lets highlight some of musics best:


Robert Nesta Marley known as Bob Marley was known as one of the pioneers of Reggae , celebrating what would have been his 75th birthday this past February 6th known for his best hits One Love/PeopleGetReady known for his blending of rocksteady , ska and reggae he became a popular figure of pop culture today and became a symbol for Jamaican culture. He passed away at the age of 36 from Melanoma skin cancer in 1981. 


Prince Rogers Nelson known as Prince is an American songwriter producer and composer. Known as one of the greatest of our time he changed the landscape of music by bringing the Minneapolis sound with a mix of synth-pop and wave and integrate it with soul. R&B, pop and more. He changed the landscape of music with his lyrics and collaborations with figures such as Big Daddy Kane , Chaka Khan , and more. His most notable work Purple Rain made Billboard top 200 for 24 weeks in a row and became the soundtrack for one of the most notable movies in the world.  He passed away in 2016 from an accidental fentanyl overdose in his mansion in Minnesota.

Run DMC  Joseph Simmons, Darryl McDaniels, and Jason Mizell,  are one of the pioneers of hip hop history. Being the first rap group to receive a gold album, a platinum album as well as a platinum plus album for their music. They have made their notable appearances on popular pop culture show american bandstand and they were the first rap video to ever premiere on MTV in 1984 with their hit single "Rock Box"
